Disney Magic

Dreams really do come true

Aight, day 1 of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, where should I start? I thought it was surreal just thinking about coming to Disney World but actually being here, it’s like stepping into a dream you never want to wake up from. We walked into the Disney Grand Floridian and my heart skipped a beat because of how gorgeous the place is.

Just check out the view from our room balcony.

Right now, it’s almost midnight here and I’m dying of exhaustion. But because I’m hardcore, nothing is going to stop me from sitting at my laptop and blogging the living daylights out of my day here (even though the husband is blissfully asleep). I mean, WHO NEEDS SLEEP WHEN YOU’RE AT DISNEYWORLD? Also, I’m losing consciousness so if I stop making sense, just roll with it.

Just 20 minutes ago, we fell asleep during the Monster’s Inc Laugh Floor show in Disneyland, which is less an indication of the show’s awesomeness and more  an indication of how exhausted we are.

Thanks to a combination of jet lag and initial vacation adrenaline, we’ve slept about 8 hours in the last 56 hours. We’ve been up since 5 this morning because I was too excited about getting into Magic Kingdom.

Back at the conference, today was all about Disney Weddings. Like weddings. In Disney. It’s pretty much every girl’s dream to be a princess on their wedding day and Disney can actually make that dream come true. From the princess-themed dress to the dreamy chapel by the lake, they’ve got all the ingredients for a perfect princess wedding. It almost made me want to get married again, to the same person of course.

Well unless you’re the sort that dreams of getting married while skydiving or getting chased by lions at the safari, then this is probably not for you.

Right after, we had an incredible dinner by the beach. There was a live band and roaming Disney characters and great food and a stunning view and lots of kids running around, which made us miss the kids even more. The next time we come to Disney, they’re definitely coming along.

Oh, and it’s our 4th wedding anniversary today. Best anniversary ever.

I think this is what they call bittersweet

It seems surreal that in about 12 hours, I’ll be on a plane to Florida for the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. We’re not bringing the kids along this time so it’ll be the first time since they were born that we’ll be apart for 10 days. That’s 240 hours of not being able to snuggle in bed or smell the faint strawberry scent their freshly-washed hair or nibble on their cheeks. Something tells me that I’m not going to make it.

In short, I’m going into severe baby separation anxiety mode. 10 bucks says that I’ll bawl like a baby when I board the plane.

Also, I’m pretty sure these are the symptoms of extreme separation anxiety.

1. I’m becoming schizophrenic. I spent the last 24 hours alternating between “WHOOOO I’M LEAVING!” and “I CAN’T GO I MISS MY BABIES”, sometimes within the span of 5 seconds.

2. I have been squeezing the life out of both my kids. I’m trying to hug them extra to make up for the next 10 days, so they’ve practically been stuck to my hips all day. So much so that Truett is all “ENOUGH MOMMY” and Kirsten joins in with “don’t want mommy to hugggggg.”

3. Which is the point I sigh dramatically and say, “you guys will miss me when I’m gone.”

4. I’m considering stealing their precious duck and blankie for my trip so I can breathe in their smell and imagine they’re there with me. The only thing stopping me is the knowledge that my mom and in-laws will kill me for the 10 sleepless nights ahead of them.

5. I’m making soppy videos of my kids so I can watch them over and over again when I’m there. Like these.

PS. I’ll post pictures when I’m there. Stay tuned.

seriously somewhat serious

Japan Hour

We have Japan to thank for a lot of things: ramen, Kobe beef, MSG, J-pop, Playstation 3, Final Fantasy, Takeshi Kaneshiro, ninjas and all things kawaii. On account of their ramen alone, I already am eternally grateful to the Japanese. These guys know their way around noodle soup.

Here in Singapore, we’re fortunate enough not to know what it’s like to experience an earthquake. Or a tsunami, for that matter. At home, the flooding in Orchard Road is about as close as it gets to a natural disaster, so we’re thankful. But there are folks who’ve had to brave a magnitude 8.9 earthquake and they’re doing all they can to get their lives back the way it used to be.

I know we can’t all be there to help but in addition to our thoughts and prayers, we can send some help their way right from the comfort of our earthquake-free homes. There are several sites that are receiving donations for disaster relief efforts in Japan and whatever little we can give will go a long way.

If you prefer an option closer to home, Groupon Singapore is having a deal of the day where they will be giving 100% of your donations to the Red Cross to support emergency relief efforts in Japan. You can use your credit cards or paypal account to donate, which is about as hassle-free as possible. Seriously, we can all help a little.
