Yes, you heard right. I want another (few more) of those snuggly little humans that scream all night and poop all the time. I am fully aware of the fact that it’s a severe case of the momnesia kicking in but BABIES! All sweet and cuddly and warm and cute and nice-smelling. I really want some more. Soon.
Over dinner today, I casually dropped the question on the husband.
Me: Hows your noodles?
Kel: Pretty good. Want some?
Me: I was thinking that 5 kids would be nice. All the kids running around the house, so awesome, right?
Kel: Very awesome. Sure, we can do 5.
Me: Like soon?
*This is the point he starts turning a bit pale.
Kel: Soon… like in another 3 years, just like we discussed, remember?
Me: Mmm, how about a little earlier, like 1 and a half?
*At which point he stops eating his noodles completely. By now, his color is best described as ashen.
Kel: Haha, you’re kidding right? Good one.
Me: Actually I’m serious. I think we can handle it. 2 more babies back to back, we’ve done it before, no problem.
Kel: I think you should read your own archives from July last year. You need to get rid of this momnesia before it escalates out of control.
Me: I was totally overreacting last year, all that postpartum hormones. And just think of 5 kids! We’ve even got names already.
Kel: I’m going home to print out the archives and paste them on the wall.
The rest of that conversation went something like 5 KIDS SO FUN! blah blah blah THEY WILL PLAY TOGETHER! blah blah blah THEY CAN ALL BE BEST FRIENDS! blah blah blah ECONOMIES OF SCALE! blah blah blah BABY SMELL! TINY BOOTIES! DISNEYLAND! I WANT BABIES!!!
I obviously drowned out the part about “SWOLLEN ANKLES, GINORMOUS ASS, OMG 27 HOURS OF LABOR, EPISIOTOMY, POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION, SCREAMING BABY, SORE NIPPLES…”
Finally, Kel was all like “you do realize we’ll have even less of a life than we have now, and I’m not even sure if that’s possible. I’ll have to take on 3 more jobs and come back just in time for the middle-of-the-night feed while you shuffle around like a bad-tempered zombie. Postpartum, you’ll be crabby and upset and stressed out and we’ll never have another moment of peace and quiet for the next 5 years. Or sleep, for that matter.”
I nodded. “But sure babe, if you think we’re ready, then let’s make another baby. *boom-chica-wow-wow* But we’ll have to give it another year and a half before we start trying ok. You know we’re not going to need a lot of time to try.”
And that is why I’m so in love with this man.

Both of you are truly awesome. If many of us like you, Singapore’s population will not make up 34% of foreigners.
Oh well, I do hope I could conceive as little easier yeah!
*boom-chica-wow-wow*
When you say “awesome”, do you mean “insane”? hahah.
Momnesia is so potent…
Good luck on your next adventure! :)
Hahah, an adventure it is indeed..
5 kids!?! Very adventurous and wonderful ambition!
After having ONE who fusses up to 10 times a night, I reduced my target to only 2 kids.
Good luck. :)

You know, I’ll probably go “What have i donnnnnnnneeeeeee” right after no.3 pops out.
I found your blog via mommy blogs and your title caught my attention! I never thought that I would want to have any children and now we have three and we are in the process of adopting twins from Ethiopia! They are such a blessing and we can’t wait to add two more little ones to the family!
Blessings.

That’s amazing. Hey, you’ve got a great blog going there. :) You have beautiful kids!
Haha, what a coincident! I just posted a similar note on my FB last night, that I am ready and I want to have another baby! The conversation with my hub was similar to yours and the reaction from my hub was also similar! The conclusion is, not NOW. We may go for #3 in a year time. But we are not as ambitious as you, we are aiming at 3 for now. Though we love children but don’t think we can have 5 due to our (old) age. Three will be good, four will be perfect :-)
Actually in all likelihood I’ll probably settle for four. I’m not quite thinking straight right now but I’m sure I will once postpartum for no.4 sinks in, hahah.
Daphne, you are really `insane`.
Haha… but I just thought of having another baby girl yesterday. (if someone out there could tell me the ways to predict the gender of the baby accurately)
:D
Yes indeed and I need you all to tell me that as a gentle reminder.
well i predict you have a 50/50 chance of getting a girl? Haha
You know, that sounds EXACTLY like the conversation I had with Shane not too long ago. Haha. I think our momnesia is very very serious.
Hey I think yours is more serious than mine.Dot is barely six month, get a hold of yourself! :)
Wahaha! You’re thinking babies.. When they become teenagers, you’ll have FIVE teens in the house with emo attitudes. You’ll be sweating over their coloured hair (or in my case, NO hair), tattoos, piercings, ear gauges (don’t know what these are? google it and look under images). Not forgetting boyfriends and girlfriends. Sorry if I burst your bubble! Haha!

Looks like I’ll just have to be one of those act-cute type of mothers, I’ll dye my hair pink and tattoo my hips or something.
I’m not sure about the ear gauges though (RE: gross and painful looking)!
haha you are one brave one! Well if things go as you have planned, we will have all our 3 kids spaced out exactly the same way. :-) (14 months and 2.5yrs)

Oh my, that’s true yeah?
Hey enjoy your trip to HK by the way!
Totally go for 5!The first time the husband told me he wanted 5 kids was in church pre-marriage prep. Talk about dropping a bomb. I nearly passed out from shock, since I was raised in a nice stop-at-two home. But we are definitely gunning for at least 3 now:)

Your HUSBAND is the one that wants 5? You’ve married a good one too, that’s super rare.
I used to go on and on about having 7 when we were dating and he barely raised an eyebrow. I think he knew I wasn’t being serious. But I was!
Not any more though, or I’ll might as well top it up with one more and become Asia’s first Octomom.
The no-hair doesn’t sound so bad. Quite cool, wat. haha! Thankfully we don’t have the tattoos, piercings, ear gauges, boyfriends and girlfriends – yet. 2 teenagers plus a Tween and more …. hey Daphne, I think you’re crazy too. They are really ok when they are babies. And your dh is wrong about the “next 5 years”. It’d be more like the next 20 years!

Maybe I should send them to boarding school or something once they turn 5 and pick them up when they turn ..21? That way I can avoid the angsty teen years.
I’m not making sense am I.
One of my teens had the most emo time from 3yrs to 11yrs, ok??!!!!!!!!! Talk about starting young!
Hahaha. And then after that? Become very mature?
SO far, not bad. He’s only 13 now. I’m not sure if there’ll be a 2nd-wave! He does still have his emo moments, but they are not as bad as when he was younger – those times, I would warn my other kids not to disturb him bc he’s in a prickly moment, and my daughter would say “yea, i know. He’s PMS’g”. LOLz.

A very good friend of mne has had 5 kids in the space of 7 years ! and one of them is partially blind, quite a challenge… but her little entreprise is running quite smoothly : every kids behave as they know they are not alone with needs in the family, and there is awesome sharing among siblings. She had them all without epidural, breastfed for at least 12 months each and still managed to work as a teacher in between pregnancies. Momnesia ? she doesn’t understand the concept, she just love having babies :)

I like how you call it “her little enterprise.” That totally nails it. I don’t suppose she has time for blogging though? I totally would love to find out how she copes. I suppose she doesn’t have a helper (re: maid) too?
MCYS should get you to be the poster family for their “we’re begging you, please have more children” campaign.
Agree with Jean and will love to see you and your family picture everywhere.
