The fun has just begun

So we went to Universal Studios again this week, this time with my mom and my sis, who’s back from Melbourne for her hols. Holidays are when family makes time for each other and there’s no better way than to soak up a bit of the Christmas magic in a theme park. You get to be busy all year but come December, it’s time to hit the brakes and do the quality time with the people that are important to you. Do the parties and the gatherings and coffees before the new year comes around.

At least, that’s how we roll.

On to the peek-tures. The characters were all pimped out in their festive gear, even though it was 35 degrees out. Also, I have a thing for collecting pictures with mascots. Some people collect stamps, I collect pictures with characters. Stop judging me.

Then when you run out of characters, make up your own.

This is my mom on a super grandma carousel, well, because she’s one. We even managed to get her to try The Mummy ride as a single rider, no less. She got real queasy after and claims I conned her into it but all I said was “it goes round and round, not that scary” verbatim. To be fair, I didn’t remember it to be quite so scary but then again, the last time I went on, my eyes were closed for most of the ride.

If you’re looking for a nice place to take pictures, there’s this street next to Spielberg’s show at New York. Love it.

You know what they say, family time is good for the soul and I wholeheartedly concur.

This is turning out to be one of the best Decembers ever and there’s still almost three weeks of it left. That’s like waking up at thinking it’s 6am when it’s actually 1.45am and realizing that you’ve still got another 5 solid hours of blissful sleep. Somehow, you always end up making the most of it, which is exactly what I plan to do.

blogging about blogging, stuff best described as not safe for parents

Somebody needs to fix Facebook.

I was trying to upload pictures of our trip to Universal Studios yesterday on Facebook and I got to this page where the face recognition system groups all the faces that look alike into the same group for easy tagging.

Apparently, both my kids look alike, which is hardly surprising seeing they came from the same factory. But apparently, they also don’t look like me because my face was put into another category. That’s fine, though, because I’m not the picky sort when it comes to having kids that look like my clones.

What’s really disturbing is that Facebook thinks that if my sister and a fake Marilyn Monroe came together to have a baby, they’d get my kids.

Seriously, I couldn’t even make this stuff up. Thanks a lot, Facebook. You’re obviously broken.

picture perfect, playgrounds!

Horsing around part 2: minus the horses

Here’s the second part to the horse story. After spending the bulk of our morning detouring to the stable, we decided to continue our search for that elusive playground in Pasir Ris Park. Also, it was part of our plan to tire them out to the point of complete exhaustion, which in gaming terms is called KO.

We asked around but nobody seemed to be sure exactly where it was, and the most helpful answer was that it was too far to walk. After circling round Pasir Ris a couple of times, we finally found it.

The last time I came here was a decade ago, where the only structure was the iconic spiderweb, you know, the rope climbey thing that looks like a spiderweb. Now it’s a massive playground with fancy thingamajigs that we didn’t know how to operate. I mean, like this spinning satellite dish. Anyone knows what this is for? The husband got on and almost couldn’t get off because you can’t make it stop the moment you start moving.

And this works like a see-saw, except more technologically advanced.

There were also the usual playground regulars.

My favorite? These.

In a nutshell, this park gets my vote for the best (free) outdoor playground in Singapore. And the cherry on top is how it’s so shady with all the trees so you can just set up your mats and read a book while the kids go crazy. Everybody wins.

Also, did I mention it’s 5 minutes from home? Provided I don’t get lost again.
