Truett is off for a 6-day adventure in Taiwan with my mom and I’m already missing him to bits.
But based on a a little conversation I overheard last night, it seems like the one who misses him the most is his best friend/baby sister.
Kirsten: Kor kor, when you go to Taiwan, will you forget me?
Truett: Of course not! How can I ever forget about you? Anyway, it’s just 6 days, not forever.
Kirsten: 6 days is SO LONG! And you’ll be too busy having so much fun…and eating ice cream…and going playgrounds. I’ll be so bored when you’re not here, y’know!
Truett: Don’t worry, I’ll think of you all the time, that way I won’t forget you ok.
Kirsten: Ok, I hope you’ll come back soon, like tomorrow.
Truett: What? Tomorrow is too short! I’ll be in Taiwan until next week but I’ll bring back something super special for you, you like Frozen right? I’ll ask grandma to find an Elsa dress or something.
Kirsten: *squeals and goes in for a giant hug* I’m going to hug you all night and never let you go!

This morning, she woke up all teary-eyed and her first words were “IS KOR KOR GONE? I DIDN’T GET A CHANCE TO SAY GOODBYE TO HIM!”
To cheer her up, I brought her out for a surprise outing to watch Mr Peabody and Sherman after school and when we were done, she said “That was great! Promise me you’ll bring kor kor to watch this when he comes back, he will love it so much.”
I’m so glad they have each other.

Such a sweet moment between the two! It’s so heartwarming to witness this deep affection the siblings share. K is such a sweet meimei!
Haha we love eavesdropping on their conversations – they sometimes talk like little adults it’s so cute! :)
omg! so super super sweet!!
Thanks Shirley! :)
I have always wondered about your support system–yours must be huge! I’ve reflected on our lack of a system in Singapore here: http://bubsicles.com/2013/09/23/away-from-family. I’ve also spoken to friends about the lack of resources if you don’t have family in Singapore and/or do not want to hire a domestic worker. For example, gyms and grocery stores in Singapore do not offer baby-sitting; one can’t find a student to be a mother’s helper or evening nanny (and, oh, I’ve tried!); etc. Anyways, if you have reflections on this topic, I’d love to hear them.
Great article, Pooja! We do have a wonderful support system – my mom and my in-laws are a great help, which is why we’re crazy enough to have 4 kids. They’re all still working so it takes a bit of schedule coordination but we take all the help we can get!
I do recall the days of juggling Truett and Kirsten alone a few years back (WHAT WAS I THINKING?? I barely even stepped out of the house for the first 6 months after Kirsten was born) but thankfully those days are over. You’re right in that babysitting options are very limited – forget dinners or movies or gym classes, I remember having to lug the kids along just for grocery runs and little errands.
Preschool is great though! My life was so much better once they started going to school at 18 months, those 3 hours a day were a lifesaver. :)
Preschool is fabulous, isn’t it? My DD started a few months ago and it has really made doing chores, running errands, going to the dentist, etc. much easier! Heck, it gives me 30 minutes to get dinner on the table without a child demanding, “MAMA CARRY! MAMA CARRY!”
It’s wonderful that your family is so involved (and that you WANT them to be involved). Juggling one child — let alone more than one — alone is no joke.
Anyways, you are quite the inspiration!
LOL preschool is the best decision I’ve ever made as a mom! I used to celebrate every morning after dropping them off. :)
Awwwwwww this is so sweet!!

Thanks Daphne!
You have the sweetest kid, Daphne. I love how much they love each other.
Thanks Veraday! It’s one of the best things to witness as a mom. *Almost* makes up for all the times we have to break up fights and squabbles.
This is too precious. I read this post again and again and even showed it to hubby because I couldn’t get over how adorable it is. I hope my little boy and baby girl can share such a bond and closeness as they grow up together too :)
