coolest kids ever

Sing us a song, piano boys

We were over at my in-laws’ place during chinese new year and there’s this piano in the living room so my 2 boys spontaneously decided they were going to pair up for a duet.

I’m not going to wax lyrical about their musical ability because it is clear that they have none to speak of. I suppose this sort of talent can develop later in life for some but looking at the gene pool they inherited theirs from, let’s just say that we don’t have high hopes of that happening.

No matter though, because the next best thing to doing something really well is to at least look cool attempting it.

Which if you ask me, nailed it!

PS. All you need to do is cover your ears and imagine Billy Joel in the background.

playgrounds!

Stop everything, it’s playground time

On the third day of new year, we took a break from all the visiting and went to visit the park instead. There were audible cheers from the kids and they’re right, park visiting is the very best kind of visiting there is.

After two days of blistering heat, it was just glorious, cool breeze over at Pasir Ris park. Who can resist?

Baby Finn was so excited he was like “laters y’all, imma go have me some playground fun!”

laters, y'all

He got to the play area where there were all these activity panels, of which some had cut out holes for kids to stick their heads through to take a photo. Probably meant to be cute but baby Finn has a thing where headless figures seriously creep him out so he was walking past all the panels and he started getting real concerned about The Place With All The Creepy Headless People.

Truett was so tickled by baby Finn’s horrified, creeped out face but after he was done laughing his head off, he took his brother’s hand and walked him through the whole thing, telling him not to be afraid because “kor kor is here”.

Which is exactly what big brothers are for. They may laugh at you from time to time but they’re always there to hold your hand when it gets scary.

According to these guys, playground time is “more awesome than anything else in the world”. Except maybe ice-cream time.

Like a regular new year, but chinese!

The great thing about being Chinese is that we get to celebrate the new year twice in a regular year. So if the first one was kind of meh, that’s ok, we’ve got a chinese one right around the corner, this time with MORE SNACKS! Bak kwa! Ang pows!

I think kids have been learning about the year of the horse at Chinese class but clearly something got lost in translation because Kirsten came home and declared it to be the year of the unicorn.

Truett was all “It’s horse, not unicorn!”

I think I like the unicorn one better so happy new year, you guys! I hope it’s filled with unicorns.
